Does anyone else find this shocking that we are even talking about the need for a Parental Bill of Rights?! I’m sorry, but this shouldn’t just shock you - it should scare the pants off of you, because if we are talking about needing to codify into law a parent’s right to raise their child, then this means the government (and its private sector cohorts), are after your children! Unbelievable. Truly astonishing that we’ve arrived at this point. Tell me, what kind of countries control the children over parental objections? Anyone? Sit with that for a minute.
For anyone questioning if we actually need a Parents’ Bill of Rights, let me tell you a quick story. A fellow mom that I’ve known for a couple of years now recently said she has had some very upsetting first-hand experiences with regards to interference from “institutions” in her role in her children’s lives. Her kids range in age from 8 years old up to 24. Here’s the gist of what she recanted…
Recently, I couldn’t make a tele-health appointment for my daughter with my credentials since she is over the age of twelve. “But I’m her mother, and I manage her healthcare” didn’t cut it. I was NOT able to make the appointment.
Another time a doctor’s office called to confirm an appointment for my daughter, and I asked–since my calendar wasn’t in front of me–“Which department was this for?” The healthcare team-member told me he could not tell me that unless my daughter was available to give that express permission. I replied, “Well, she’s thirteen, therefore, she’s in school right now.” He replied with, “Then we cannot confirm the appointment at this time.”
Another example: college students’ grades and medical status will not be released to parents–although the bills come right to us!
Obviously we need this Bill of Rights!
On the federal level, last month the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act. This is a summary of the legislation, and here are a few of the main points:
it would require public school districts to post information about curricula for students, including providing parents with a list of books and reading materials available in the school libraries.
it would require schools to offer at least two in-person parent-teacher meetings annually, and school boards would be required to hear feedback from parents about their student’s education.
it would require schools to publicly disclose their budgets.
it would also require schools to notify parents of violent activity occurring at schools and also at events sponsored by schools.
it would require parents to consent before any medical exams, (which includes mental health or substance use testing), could take place at school.
Unfortunately, the Democrat-controlled Senate has not taken up the bill, and Biden openly objects to it.
A Trend Sweeping the Nation:
However, the vast majority of states seem to be passing or at least considering making a Parental Bill of Rights into law. According to one article I read, apparently legislation that protects parental rights in some way is either pending or has already been approved in all but a handful of states (New York, Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, Vermont, and Connecticut). Why am I not surprised that New York is on that list?
And Yet, Here in Dystopia…
True to the super-majority, far-left Democrat form, New York is not only one of those few states that does not have a Parental Bill of Rights being considered, or passed, but instead, New York is going in the complete opposite direction! I’ve previously written about the attack on parental rights here in New York. Let me just cover two of the most horrific ones here…
First there is NYS Assembly bill A4604, which very unfortunately also has a sister bill in the NYS Senate at S2584A (which doesn’t yet have a new number for this year, but nonetheless exists). If you click on either of those bill numbers, you’ll see the text which begins with “AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to comprehensive sexuality education in schools.” The first paragraph in Section 1 pretty much sums it up. It reads:
§ 804-e. Comprehensive sexuality education. 1. Each public and charter school shall ensure all pupils receive, as an integral part of education in grades kindergarten through twelve, comprehensive sexuality education. (Emphasis added)
You read that correctly folks - it does indeed say it’s required in grades KINDERGARTEN THROUGH TWELVE. So, 5-year-olds will have to receive “comprehensive sexuality education” in school. Same with 6-year-olds. And 7-year-olds. And so on. You (parents) no longer have the right to decide when or even what your child learns about sex and sexuality. The government is going to decide for you! Let me repeat that because it truly is so astonishing, and so illegal… The government wants to teach your children all about sex and sexuality, and you have no say!
Are you going to allow this bill to become a law?
Note that EVERY SINGLE New York State Senator and Assembly Member is up for election next year (2024), so you will have the opportunity to remove from office all of these legislators who “co-sponsor” legislation like this.
Astonishingly, there are about 60 NYS Assembly Members who are co-sponsoring this bill, too many for me to name here, but I strongly encourage you to check out that list HERE. Be sure to click on “View Additional Co-Sponsors” so you can see if your Assembly Member on this list. If so, speak up! Let them know what you think of this legislation, and then make sure you find out who is running against them next year, and see if that challenger would support this abhorrent proposed law or not.
Just When You Thought It Couldn’t Get Worse…
So New York’s far-left law-makers have another offensive, anti-parental rights piece of proposed legislation that you should know about. Though it doesn’t have a new number for this year yet, it doesn’t mean it won’t get re-introduced. NYS Assembly bill A9963. The bill, if passed into law, would give MINOR children the right to make their own medical decisions WITHOUT parental consent!
Here are some of the most shocking parts of this bill:
Any person, including a minor, who comprehends the need for, the nature of, and the reasonably foreseeable risks and benefits involved in any contemplated medical, dental, health, or hospital service, as well as any alternatives thereto, may give effective consent thereto for themself, and the consent of no other person shall be necessary. (Emphasis added)
Ok parents and guardians, so there it is. Plain as day. Your parental rights have just been revoked! If this bill passes, you will no longer have a say in what medical, health, dental or hospital services your MINOR child undergoes. I was discussing this absurd, proposed legislation with a friend before I wrote this article, and she asked me if this language includes all kinds of procedures, even services to change one’s sex? Sadly, I had to answer her in the affirmative. The language is so broad, it can encompass anything, and there is in fact an entire section of this proposed law that speaks to offering “reproductive and sexual health care services.”
But wait, there’s more…
On the topic of vaccines, the proposed law says:
[A] child who may give effective consent under this section may give effective consent to their own immunization, and the consent of no other person shall be necessary. (Emphasis added)
So, minor children, those who cannot (in the eyes of the law because they are not mature enough) drive a car, or vote, or serve in our military, or buy an alcoholic beverage, can decide which drugs to inject into their bodies! And you parents have no say at all. None whatsoever! (If any of my readers have good investigative skills, I’d love to hear if any of these Assembly Members sponsoring this bill receive funding from Big Pharma? Let me know what you find.)
Sadly, there’s more still…
Just make sure you’re sitting down as you continue reading.
[N]o information about any medical, dental, health, or hospital service a child has consented to themself shall be included without the child's authorization. A child may consent to disclosure generally or only in an emergency or may withhold consent all together. (Emphasis added)
Yes folks, you read that correctly. It does say that the child gets to decide whether or not their parents are allowed to know what medical procedures or services their child was given by a “qualified health professional.” Note, I did not use the word “physician” because this bill wants to replace the word “physician” with the phrase “qualified health professional”. Think about that for a hot second. This bill proposes replacing the knowledge and expertise of physicians and instead giving this unbelievable medical power to just any so-called “qualified health professional,” whatever that means.
I’m certain some of you are thinking, “Who is going to pay for all of these child-consented-to-behind-their-parents’-backs medical procedures and services?” I’m sure even more of you can guess that answer… This proposed law says that if the child’s parents’ insurance doesn’t pay for it, then the parents get the bill. If there’s no parents and insurance, then, hold on, wait for it… you and I get to pay for it! Anyone want to read the proposed law? It is here. Thus far there is no Senate companion bill that I know of, yet. Please correct me on that if I’m wrong.
Meanwhile, in Florida…
The sunshine state of Florida recently passed a law that enforces and preserves parents’ rights! Imagine that? The law basically says that parents should be the decision makers, and any decision that’s made in the school that has an effect on the physical, emotional or mental well being of the child, must involve the parent. It also prohibits schools from teaching sexual education before 4th Grade.
The fabulous Jan Jekielek, host of American Thought Leaders, interviewed the Florida state legislator who sponsored that law. In part of the interview, which you can watch here, Jan asked Representative Joe Harding why he sponsored the bill. His common sense response is refreshing when he explains that you cannot replace a parent with the government. And that at the end of the day, it’s the parent that knows their child best, and that’s who should be making the decisions for them - not the government.
So simple. So logical. So well said.
So sad we need to make laws to stop the government from abolishing your right to raise your children.
Parents should home school their own children before brainwashing public schools indoctrinate them and turn them into zombies.
We truly live in clown world.
I wonder if sane ppl will ever inhabit the gov again.
